Backing Barry: A Brave Journey for a Bigger Cause

This October, a pink-striped Ford Econovan will roll out of Alice Springs, heading east through the heart of the outback toward the Gold Coast. His name? Barry the Brave, a tiger-striped Tassie battler on a mission to make a difference.

We’re proud to announce that Bonney Energy is sponsoring Barry in the Spring 2025 Shitbox Rally, running from October 24 to November 1, all in support of cancer research.

The Shitbox Rally is no ordinary road trip. It's one of Australia’s biggest charity events, challenging teams to drive cars worth less than $1,500 across thousands of kilometres of rough terrain, all while raising funds for Cancer Council. The Spring rally features around 100 cars and just as many stories of resilience, mateship, and community spirit.

Barry wouldn’t be brave without his crew, Kieran and Emma, two passionate locals from Hobart who are taking on the rally with grit, humour, and a whole lot of heart. Together, they’ve transformed a beat-up Ford Econovan into a rolling tribute to Tasmania’s iconic tiger, decked out in bold pink and purple stripes and ready to take on thousands of kilometres of red dirt and roadblocks.

We’ll be cheering Barry on from start to finish, and we invite you to follow the journey and get behind the cause.
