Free BBQ and Health Checks for Tassie's Transport Workers
Bonney Energy, in partnership with the Tasmanian Transport Association (TTA), will host a free Truckies BBQ and pop-up health clinic at Epping Forest on Wednesday, 20 May, as part of National Road Safety Week 2026.
Running from 8:00am to 1:00pm, the event is expected to welcome approximately 200 drivers and transport workers across the day, offering a chance to stop, refuel, and prioritise wellbeing along one of Tasmania’s key freight routes.
Truck drivers passing through will be treated to a free BBQ, with sausages in bread available, along with a complimentary small coffee, redeemable next door at Bonney’s Epping Forest on the day.
In conjunction with the BBQ, TTA will deliver a pop-up health clinic through its Open Road program, providing free, confidential health checks for drivers and transport workers.
The clinic will be hosted in the TTA Bus on site at Epping Forest.
The Open Road program is a dedicated, industry-led initiative supporting the health and wellbeing of Tasmania’s essential freight and transport workforce. Delivered in partnership with organisations including Rural Alive and Well (RAW), the Tasmanian Truck Owners and Operators Association (TTOOA), and the Royal Flying Doctor Service Tasmania, the program focuses on raising awareness, building industry capacity, and delivering practical, on-the-ground support.
By meeting workers where they are, on the road, at depots, and along key transport corridors, Open Road plays a vital role in improving access to support services across the industry.
Greg Niven, CEO of Bonney Energy, said the event reflects the company’s ongoing commitment to supporting the people who keep Tasmania moving.
“Truck drivers are essential to our communities and economy. This is a simple way for us to give something back, whether it’s a feed, a coffee, or the opportunity to check in on your health. Looking after our people is what keeps Tasmania moving.”
The initiative highlights a shared commitment between Bonney Energy and TTA to support a safer, healthier, and more resilient freight industry, particularly during National Road
Safety Week, which aims to raise awareness of road safety and reduce serious incidents on Australian roads.
