Johnnie Eaton’s 215km Challenge for a Cause
Johnnie Eaton’s 215km Challenge for a Cause
Bonney Energy is proud to support Tasmanian trail runner Johnnie Eaton as he takes on one of the state’s most ambitious endurance challenges, a 215km run from Latrobe to Lake St. Clair, linking the rugged Penguin Cradle Trail with the iconic Overland Track.
This remarkable feat, taking place on October 5, 2025, isn’t just about testing personal limits. Johnnie’s goal is to raise at least $5,000 for the Royal Hobart Hospital (RHH) Research Foundation, supporting life-saving medical research and initiatives that improve health outcomes for Tasmanians and people worldwide.
We asked Johnnie the motivator behind this incredible feat, and this is what he had to say. “I’ve been wanting to enter a 100-miler trail event for some time now, but the timing has never worked,” Johnnie explains. “So I thought, why not create my own? Connecting the Penguin Cradle Trail and the Overland Track has always been a dream of mine, and doing it for a cause like the RHH Research Foundation makes it even more meaningful.”
Covering 215km across Tasmania’s wilderness is no small task. Johnnie expects to face some of the biggest challenges, including the notoriously slow and technical Leven Canyon on the Penguin Cradle Trail, the mental battle of moving alone through remote terrain at night, and the inevitable toll of sleep deprivation and physical exhaustion.
Although the run itself is a solo effort, Johnnie will be backed by a dedicated support team and a network of sponsors. His fiancée will be by his side in a campervan, preparing meals and meeting him at checkpoints along the way.
Local businesses have also rallied behind Johnnie, with Bonney Energy playing a crucial role by supplying the fuel that will keep his support crew moving across Tasmania. Other partners are also stepping up to make the challenge possible:
- Go Cheap Campers - providing a van to serve as a mobile base.
- Moor Endurance, True Protein and Maple Movement - supplying specialised nutrition.
- Smitten Merino - supplying merino layers for performance and comfort.
- Savu Saunas - supporting Johnnie’s recovery.

- Backpacking Light - supplying gear to withstand the elements.
- Coros Australia - providing performance monitoring equipment.
- Lake St Clair Lodge - offering accommodation at the finish line.
- MyState - making financial contributions.
- Coastal Pathway Ultra - supporting Johnnie by allowing him to start alongside their competitors.
