Making it Home for Christmas

Making it Home for Christmas

The Christmas and summer holiday period is a time when many Australians travel long distances to be with family and friends. Unfortunately, it is also one of the most dangerous times on our roads.

Recent figures show that during the Christmas period in 2024 (23 December to 3 January), 40 lives were lost on Australian roads. Across the wider holiday season, from 1 December 2024 to 31 January 2025, that number rises to 228 lives lost nationwide.

Behind every statistic is a family, a friend, and a community affected by tragedy. These numbers serve as an important reminder that road safety is everyone’s responsibility.

More than half of these fatalities were drivers, and over one in three involved someone aged 65 or older. Importantly, over 37% of fatal crashes occurred on roads with speed limits of 80 km/h or less, showing that serious accidents often happen close to home, not just on major highways.

As a community, we all play a role in keeping each other safe. Before travelling, drivers are encouraged to check their vehicles—tyres, lights, brakes, fluids, and load security—and to drive to conditions, take breaks, and avoid distractions. At Bonney Energy, we are committed to supporting the safety and wellbeing of the communities we serve. This holiday season, we encourage everyone to stay vigilant on the roads so more families can enjoy the moments that truly matter.
