AdBlue®

AdBlue®

AdBlue® is a urea-based diesel exhaust fluid consumed in Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) systems on many modern vehicles. This technology has been adopted by vehicle manufacturers to help meet the latest European requirements on diesel engine emissions.

AdBlue®, is an ISO 9001 Certified product, fully VDA approved and is made to the specification outlined in the ISO Standard 22241 – it is quality you can trust!

We can provide AdBlue® solutions to suit your Diesel Fleet requirements through our fuel card network or bulk delivery across Victoria and Tasmania. Package sizes are available in 1,000 litre IBC’s, 200 litre, 15 litre and 10 litre drums. For more information on AdBlue® delivery in Victoria or Tasmania, get in touch with the bulk fuel delivery experts at Bonney Energy today.

What is AdBlue®?

AdBlue® refers to the aqueous urea solution that is used in selective catalytic reduction (SCR) systems to reduce nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions from diesel engines. The solution is comprised of 32.5% urea and 67.5% deionized water.

Why is AdBlue® required?

AdBlue® is used in a wide range of diesel-powered vehicles like trucks, buses, and off-road equipment. Its use is becoming more common as the Australian government implements stricter emissions regulations for diesel engines to reduce air pollution.

AdBlue® is not currently a requirement in Australia, but it can be used by some manufacturers and models in order to meet the increasingly strict emissions regulations that are in place and are only going to be more relevant in time. Specifically, AdBlue® is used to reduce nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions from diesel engines, which are a major contributor to air pollution.

Australia has adopted the Euro 6 emission standard for light vehicles, which sets limits for various pollutants, including NOx emissions. Many diesel-powered vehicles, particularly heavy-duty vehicles like trucks and buses, may not be able to meet these standards without the use of an emissions reduction technology like SCR and AdBlue®.

How does AdBlue® work?

In SCR systems, a small amount of AdBlue® is injected into the exhaust stream, where it vaporizes into ammonia (NH3) and carbon dioxide (CO2). The ammonia then reacts with the NOx in the presence of a catalytic converter, reducing overall NOx emissions.

The catalytic converter contains a material, typically Platinum, Palladium, or a mix of both, that catalyses the chemical reaction between ammonia and NOx. This reaction converts the harmful NOx emissions into harmless nitrogen (N2) and water vapor (H2O) which are then released into the atmosphere.

The AdBlue® solution is injected into the exhaust stream using a precisely controlled dosing system, which ensures that the correct amount of AdBlue® is used for each engine operating condition. In this way, the SCR system can effectively reduce NOx emissions without compromising the performance of the engine.

Where can you buy AdBlue®?

You can purchase AdBlue through Bonney Energy. We can deliver AdBlue® products to your property and will provide tailored solutions to suit your Diesel Fleet requirements through our fuel card network or bulk delivery across Victoria and Tasmania. Package sizes for AdBlue® are available in 1,000 litre IBC’s, 200 litre, 15 litre and 10 litre drums.

Do all diesel vehicles  need AdBlue?

No - AdBlue® is only suitable for newer diesel vehicles fitted with an SCR system - these are engines that meet the Euro-6 standard. Generally, that applies to any diesel car sold in Australia after 2016.

If you’re not sure, consult your vehicle handbook. This will tell you if AdBlue® is necessary, as well as outline where the AdBlue® tank and filler nozzle are located.
